Caucusing is easy (part 3)

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Add John Edwards to the list of Democrats with videos proclaiming the ease of Iowa caucusing. (Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have already released theirs). You can find the Edwards video here. It lasts 6-minutes plus, but it’s fun..

No cameos like Hillary’s video; instead, Edwards mixes a little ’40s swing with a feel that Marvel/DC comics readers will especially get.

The interesting thing is, the video not only has instructions for caucus-goers but a day planner for precinct captains and volunteers (Don’t forget to make those phone calls, tape the Orange Bowl, give others a ride to the caucuses and, hey, bring some baked goods to lure the undecideds). You can tell, this guy’s done this before.

Who loves a Monday?

(9:45 a.m.) Some somewhat early notes on this, Dec.3, the 31st day before the Iowa caucuses:

******The shelf life of a presidential poll in Iowa these days? Less than a banana or a jar of mayo in 90-degree heat, it appears. A new Associated Press and Pew Research Center poll out this morning says Hillary Clinton is leading Barack Obama by 31 to 26 percent, with John Edwards in third at 19 percent. The Clinton campaign is eager to share this news. All day Sunday, the Des Moines Register’s poll that showed Obama leading was touted as the definitive word on the state. Likely, it still will be.

*******Edwards is touting his newly minted endorsement from Rep. Bruce Braley, D-Iowa. They’re making the official announcement today in Waterloo. You can find my story on it here.

******Barack Obama’s campaign has launched a new web site to detail Clinton’s attacks on him. It’s titled — get this – Hillary Attacks. Call it a companion (okay, counterpart) to Clinton’s earlier offering, called the Fact Hub. Find Obama’s truthful site here. Find Clinton’s truthful site here. You decide who’s the, um, truthier.

******The International Association of Firefighers is airing a 4-minute video of their Iowa tour touting Chris Dodd’s presidential campaign. You can find it here. The IAFF gave John Kerry a boost in 2004, and union president Harold Schaitberger says while the pundits may be ignoring Dodd the people aren’t. “We see what we saw four years ago. That is an opportunity for Iowans to really make that decision on who shold be the next president of the United States,” he says.
