On the Campaign Trail with Ed Tibbetts

Who loves a Monday?

(9:45 a.m.) Some somewhat early notes on this, Dec.3, the 31st day before the Iowa caucuses:

******The shelf life of a presidential poll in Iowa these days? Less than a banana or a jar of mayo in 90-degree heat, it appears. A new Associated Press and Pew Research Center poll out this morning says Hillary Clinton is leading Barack Obama by 31 to 26 percent, with John Edwards in third at 19 percent. The Clinton campaign is eager to share this news. All day Sunday, the Des Moines Register’s poll that showed Obama leading was touted as the definitive word on the state. Likely, it still will be.

*******Edwards is touting his newly minted endorsement from Rep. Bruce Braley, D-Iowa. They’re making the official announcement today in Waterloo. You can find my story on it here.

******Barack Obama’s campaign has launched a new web site to detail Clinton’s attacks on him. It’s titled — get this – Hillary Attacks. Call it a companion (okay, counterpart) to Clinton’s earlier offering, called the Fact Hub. Find Obama’s truthful site here. Find Clinton’s truthful site here. You decide who’s the, um, truthier.

******The International Association of Firefighers is airing a 4-minute video of their Iowa tour touting Chris Dodd’s presidential campaign. You can find it here. The IAFF gave John Kerry a boost in 2004, and union president Harold Schaitberger says while the pundits may be ignoring Dodd the people aren’t. “We see what we saw four years ago. That is an opportunity for Iowans to really make that decision on who shold be the next president of the United States,” he says.
